About the Job:

This half-time position is an integral member of the Oak Park program team, which provides home and center based parenting supports to pregnant and parenting families in Oak Park and the surrounding western suburbs. This works under the Assistant Director of Family Support to assist in the outreach, screening and intake for our Home Visiting and Doula programs. S/he will support all outreach efforts including community canvassing and fairs, telephone screenings and other activities to ensure our family support programs are operating at full capacity at all times.  This position is located at the Oak Park office and will spend considerable time in the community. Pay: $15.38-$17.79/hour.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts weekly outreach in the community through canvassing, attending fairs and other activities that promote an awareness of New Moms programming throughout the eight western suburbs we serve, to ensure New Moms’ Home Visiting program is at full capacity.
  • Conducts telephone and in-person eligibility screenings, while answering questions about program services for potential participants.  Provide program referrals to ineligible individuals.
  • Tracks all referrals, screenings and intakes via internal and external databases in a timely manner.
  • Works collaboratively with community stakeholders to ensure a continuum of service delivery.
  • Works with Chicago based Outreach Specialist for western suburb referrals and potential outreach events.
  • Maintain monthly contact with those on the waiting list.
  • Assist with other home visiting program supports as assigned including group preparation and data entry.


The successful candidate will posses:

  • Commitment to and passion for the mission of New Moms.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor’s preferred.
  • A graduate of New Moms programs preferred.
  • Those with strong connections in the 8 communities served by HV Program are encouraged to apply.
  • Cross-cultural experience to effectively match resources to participants’ needs.
  • Endorses a “Housing First” philosophy which focuses on a Family-Centered, Trauma-Informed, Strengths-Based practice model that integrates harm reduction, motivational interviewing, executive skills informed coaching and positive youth development practices in working with families.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects or assignments concurrently.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team approach model and conduct oneself professionally at all times.
  • Sound professional judgment and problem solving ability, as well as the desire to work in a socially and psychologically challenged environment.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Access to a car and/or ability to use public transportation required.
