About the Job:

This full-time position will oversee Parent Education in our Housing and Family Support programs to ensure high quality group services is provided and aligned across programs and locations.  Parent Education opportunities lead to increasing support, economic stability, parenting skills and social capital for families. This position supports the agency’s vision, philosophy and values in interrupting the cycle of poverty through a two generation family-centered coaching approach. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Family Support, Oak Park and works closely with program leadership in Housing and Family Support in Chicago and Oak Park to ensure seamless service delivery. This position is located at our Oak Park Office and will spend several days a week at our office in the Austin neighborhood.  Salary: $47,500


Key job responsibilities:

  • Ensures all parent support groups/café’s, workshops, Morning Parent Meet Up and Life Skills groups have high quality programming by developing or using prescribed evidence based group curriculum for Family Support and Housing programs at both locations. 
  • Facilitates at least three groups per week independently and provides coaching and support to staff who implement the other groups by ensuring they have tools, training, and resources needed for high quality facilitation and group coaching.
  • Supervises the hiring, training and supervision of the part-time Parent Education coordinator and to ensure alignment and quality service delivery of Parent Education programming in Oak Park.
  • Supervises the overall implementation of parent support group and life skills groups which includes scheduling groups, coordinating child care, activities and meal planning at both locations in coordinate with program managers.
  • Ensures Family Support groups meet Parents as Teachers’ guidelines and for Family Support and any contractual obligations for Housing, as well as agency goals.
  • Works seamlessly with program leadership in Family Support and Housing programs to ensure strong coordination and collaboration with all three teams’ staff and participants.
  • Collaborates with development staff, child care staff and others to support the orientation, oversight and retention of volunteers involved within the child care programs in both locations.


The successful candidate will posses:

  • Commitment to and passion for the mission of New Moms.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in the area of human resources, social work, counseling, education or psychology required. 
  • 3 years of group work experience required.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience required, with early childhood staff preferred.
  • Experience with curriculum and instruction preferred.
  • Endorses a Family-Centered, Trauma-Informed, Strengths-Based practice model that integrates harm reduction, motivational interviewing, executive skills functioning and positive youth development practices in working with young moms and their children, required.
  • Knowledge of current trends and best practices for helping individuals and families achieve self-sufficiency in group settings.
  • Interest in understanding the impacts of poverty, chronic stress, and trauma on executive functioning skills.
  • Flexible, high degree of comfort with ambiguity, enthusiasm, and a good sense of humor essential
  • Ability to handle multiple projects or assignments concurrently.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and in writing.
  • Sound professional judgment and analytical ability, as well as the desire to work in a socially and psychologically pressured environment.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team approach model.
  • Experience Microsoft operating systems and database management systems.
  • Valid driver’s license, with safe driving record and valid insurance.
  • Must obtain Parents as Teachers training within 6-months of hire and maintain certification.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Food Managers certification within 6-months of hire.
  • Ability to work 1 evening a week.
