The mission of New Moms is to express the love of God by surrounding young moms and their children with all they need to transform their lives. New Moms is a 36 year old nonprofit organization, with a budget of nearly $6 million and a staff of nearly 60, focused on serving young moms in Chicago and the near western suburbs. New Moms’ model provides a comprehensive range of services to young moms and their children including supportive transitional housing, workforce development, early childhood services, and parenting support and education. New Moms’ headquarters is located on the west side of Chicago in the Austin neighborhood. Our social enterprise, Bright Endeavors, which provides paid transitional jobs for young moms, is located nearby in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. We also have an office in Oak Park serving the near western suburbs.

About the Job:

This full-time Home Visiting position is part of the Family Support Team which uses the Parents as Teachers curriculum, an evidenced based model which provides positive parenting support through comprehensive home-based early childhood services which includes parent coaching, case management and center-based services to pregnant and parenting families. This position collaborates with other team members to provide comprehensive services in an integrated program as well as the rest of the staff to provide seamless high quality services. The Family Support Specialist will champion all New Moms values including our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, in both strategic planning and performance. This position works out of our Oak Park office and serves Oak Park and the surrounding western suburbs. Starting Salary: $34k-39k DOE

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Conducts thorough assessments of families, utilizing prescribed assessment tools on established schedule; develops written service plans, with quarterly updates at a minimum
  • Conducts home based visits based on assigned service intensity with the participant that consist of age-appropriate parent-child activities and observations intended to enhance the parent-child relationship as well as service planning, life skills, and emotional support through a trauma informed approach
  • Maintains working relations with other social service or public agencies; providing linkage of participants to appropriate resources and advocates for participants as necessary. Secures appropriate release and consent forms and facilities inter-agency referrals as needed.
  • Performs written and electronic recordkeeping functions as required for both internal and external databases on a timely basis according to agency policy
  • Coordinates discharge planning, resources and referrals

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Commitment to and passion for the mission of New Moms
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in the area of social work, counseling, psychology or related field
  • One or more years of experience in related field
  • Preference given to those with home visiting and/or group facilitation experience
  • Preference given to those with Parents as Teacher training or similar model
  • Required to uphold a Family-Centered Coaching approach that incorporates a trauma-Informed, strengths-based service delivery model, which integrates harm reduction, motivational interviewing, executive skill knowledge and positive youth development practices in working with whole families
  • Ability to work one evening a week
  • Valid driver’s license, with safe driving record and valid insurance. Access to a car and/or ability to use public transportation.
