About the Job:

This position is responsible for providing comprehensive, individualized coaching and family support services to young moms, ages 18-24 years old, and their children living independently in our 24-month transitional housing program with supportive services. This position is responsible for providing support and coaching which focuses on the whole family to help them achieve their goals in the areas of education, employment and life skills as they work towards exiting to permanent housing. The Family Support Specialist will champion all New Moms values including our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, in both strategic planning and performance. This position is located in our main office in Austin. Starting Salary: $38,000-$41,000 DOE


Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a case load of up to 20 participants and their children who reside at the Transformation Center (Austin location)
  • Through a home visiting model, provides a strengths based/trauma informed approach to conduct thorough assessments of families, utilizing prescribed assessment tools on established schedule; develops written service plans, with quarterly updates at a minimum which includes steps to for increased education and/or unsubsidized employment, enhance parent-child relationships, life skills and emotional supports to help achieve permanent housing at exit
  • Performs crisis prevention as needed
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of engagement events/activities each month including housing meetings that promote parent-child interaction and provide education
  • Provides back-up assistance in planning and facilitating groups and workshops for residents on a weekly basis that promote family well-being and growth as well as provides education and support on life skills
  • Performs written and electronic recordkeeping functions as required for both internal and external databases on a timely basis
  • Collaborates with the Property Management team that focuses on eviction prevention and includes participation of move-ins and exits



  • Bachelor’s Degree in the area of social work, counseling, psychology or related field required
  • More than two (2) years of professional experience in housing and homeless youth services
  • Endorses a “Housing First” philosophy
  • Experience with HMIS, ECornerstone and/or Efforts to Outcomes data system(s)s preferred
  • Upholds a Family-Centered Coaching approach using a racial equity lens that: incorporates a trauma-informed, strengths-based service delivery model, which integrates harm reduction, motivational interviewing, executive skill knowledge, and positive youth development practices
  • Ability to be on-call after hours and on weekends for on-site emergencies
  • Valid driver’s license, with safe driving record and valid insurance
  • Access to a car and/or ability to use public transportation required
