About the Organization:

New Moms strengthens families by partnering with young moms as they progress toward housing stability, economic mobility, and family well-being. New Moms is a nonprofit organization with a budget of nearly $6 million and a staff of nearly 60. At New Moms, young moms, 24 and under, take powerful first steps toward economic mobility and family well-being. Our 2-Generation approach puts families experiencing poverty in control of their goals and unleashes their potential. New Moms’ headquarters is located on the west side of Chicago in the Austin neighborhood. Our social enterprise, Bright Endeavors, which provides paid transitional jobs for young moms, is located nearby in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. We also have an office in Oak Park serving the near western suburbs.

About the Job:

The Child Care Associate assists by providing guidance and a safe and structured environment for children while their parent attends Parents Support Group or other parent groups. This position works with volunteers during groups in the child care setting in coordination with other staff. This position supports the agency’s vision, philosophy and core values in the delivery of services to parents and their children. The Child Care Associate will champion all New Moms values including our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, in both strategic planning and performance. This role works 0-19 hours per week and will work in both our Austin and Oak Park offices. Starting Wage: $15/hour

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Assists with a broad range of childcare related services, including implementing lesson plans, parent child interactions, and children’s activities
• Supports and engages with volunteers in the childcare setting
• Works collaboratively with other staff to ensure a continuum of service delivery
• Upholds the New Moms’ Family-Centered Coaching approach which is grounded in racial equity
• Participates in agency and program staff meetings, as well as professional group seminars or conferences to enhance professional knowledge and job skills as assigned
• Performs other related duties as assigned
  
  

Qualifications:

• Commitment to and passion for the mission of New Moms
• High School Diploma or equivalent required

• Experience working with children ages 0-5, preferred
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team approach model

• Experience in the use of personal computers and Microsoft software applications
• Access to a car and/or ability to use public transportation
