At New Moms, young moms, 24 and under, take powerful first steps toward economic mobility and family well-being. Our 2-Generation approach puts families experiencing poverty in control of their goals and unleashes their potential. New Moms’ headquarters is located on the west side of Chicago in the Austin neighborhood. Our social enterprise, Bright Endeavors, which provides paid transitional jobs for young moms, is located nearby in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. We also have an office in Oak Park serving the near western suburbs.

About the Job:

Serving as part of the housing team, the Housing Program Manager provides direct supervision of the Family Support Specialists and Housing Locator to meet program goals in our 40-unit single site transitional housing program and our 18-unit single site permanent supportive housing program. This full-time position supports the agency’s vision, philosophy, and values through the delivery of providing quality services that support best practice standards for services to families experiencing homelessness.  They will champion all New Moms values including our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, in both strategic planning and performance. This position will work out of both our Austin and Oak Park offices. (See COVID-19 modifications below). Starting Salary: $60,000


Key Job Responsibilities:

Program Manager 95%

  • Ensures coaches are providing high quality supports to residents through “best practice” standards for youth and adult led families which is centered in a housing first approach
  • Manages the hiring, training, and weekly reflective supervision of a diverse team
  • Facilitates reflective supervision with direct reports and provide coaching to help staff grow as professionals and excel in their role in meeting their benchmarks
  • Works with supervisor to develop, implement and track progress on programmatic plans and implementation
  • Assists with programmatic internal and external data management training
  • Ensures staff compliance with internal and external funder databases, checking monthly reports for accuracy and completion
  • Collaborates supervisor and on-site Property Manager to provide seamless services for the residents’ successful compliance with their lease agreements including eviction prevention services
  • Responsible for budget implementation and adherence
  • Manages a caseload for Transformational Center and Clare’s Place sites when the team is short staffed
  • Responsible for orientation and oversight of volunteers and interns involved within in programming
  • Oversees the on-call schedule and acts as a back-up on-call staff member as needed
  • Helps to coordinate the House Meetings, acts as a backup for both house meetings and parent support group as needed

Organizational Leadership (5%)

  • Participates in agency and program staff meetings, serving as an active member of the Family Support team, as well as professional group  seminars or conferences to enhance professional knowledge and job skills
  • Upholds the New Moms’ Executive Skills Coaching approach which is grounded in racial equity
  • Represents New Moms in a positive and constructive manner in all interactions with participants, staff, board, government officials, funders, and community partners
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Master’s Degree in counseling and guidance, rehabilitation counseling, social work, psychology, pastoral counseling, family therapy, children and families or related human service field required
  • More than three (3) years of experience supervising staff, volunteers, or interns
  • More than three (3) years of related work experience
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, projects, and deadlines concurrently
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and in writing
  • High attention to detail and results-oriented approach to work
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team approach model, taking individual responsibility and autonomy while also working well in roles leading and serving as part of a team
  • Valid driver’s license, with safe driving record and valid insurance
  • Access to a car and/or ability to use public transportation required


COVID-19 Modifications:

  • New Moms employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If you are not able to receive the vaccine for medical or religious reasons, you may seek approval for an exemption through the Director of HR.
  • Work hours take place on site at our Chicago and Oak Park locations. However, candidates must have ability to work remotely as needed. A laptop will be provided by New Moms.
  • Must complete health screen prior to reporting to office, wear a mask throughout shift, and adhere to all New Moms COVID-19 safety procedures.
